Welcome, Neighbor!

Last year, Cancer Support Community East Tennessee celebrated an important milestone by moving into their beautiful new home at 6204 Baum Drive, just down the road from our main office in Knoxville. This exciting move marked the culmination of a growth campaign that brought their vision of expanded support to life. Cherokee Distributing was honored to contribute to the campaign—a decision close to our hearts, driven by personal family experiences and a deep appreciation for the vital role this organization plays across East Tennessee.

Founded in 1990, the organization was born from the vision of Rachael Young, PhD, alongside her husband Robert and his brother Lindsay. Together, they brought the pioneering model of The Wellness Community from Santa Monica, California, to East Tennessee, with a shared mission: to provide holistic support to those facing cancer. Decades later, their mission remains unchanged—just under a new name—ensuring no one has to face cancer alone. By continuing to honor Rachael Young’s legacy, Cancer Support Community has transformed the lives of countless individuals and families in our region.

Recently, we had the pleasure of touring their new facility with Beth Hamil, executive director of Cancer Support Community East Tennessee. We left feeling more inspired than ever by the incredible work they do. The new space allows them to expand their services, accommodate more people, and offer a wider range of programs. Whether it’s support groups, nutritional guidance, exercise classes, art and cooking workshops, or services for children with cancer in the family, Cancer Support Community provides a comprehensive network of care—all at no cost to those who need it the most. Their community-driven model brings hope, healing, and comfort to families navigating the difficult journey of cancer. Whether you’re in the trenches of treatment today, in recovery, grieving a loved one, or supporting friends and family through their cancer, you are welcome, free of charge, through these doors!

One of the highlights of our visit was witnessing a cooking class in action in such a gorgeous state- of-the-art kitchen. It was uplifting to see the joy in the room as people laughed, learned new skills, and connected. During class, they were able to set aside the burdens of cancer and simply enjoy the moment. Some brought a friend or spouse, while others came to meet new friends and expand their community connections. Watching these individuals form bonds and draw strength from one another was incredibly heartwarming.

Another memorable feature of the new facility is the “wig room.” This thoughtful space offers those undergoing cancer treatment not just practical support, but also a place to reclaim a sense of normalcy and confidence. In the wig room, individuals can receive professional help picking out and styling wigs, but they also have access to stylish head wraps, comfortable socks, and mastectomy care products. Everything in the room is completely free of charge, offering those going through treatment some extra comfort and care during a difficult time.

At Cherokee Distributing, we are immensely proud to support our neighbor driving impactful outreach to so many people across East Tennessee! To learn more, visit Cancer Support Community East Tennessee, and be sure to check out their calendar of upcoming events.
